About Mark Cook
Mark’s interest for photography started at very young age. He bought his first camera at 12 and began taking photographs of sunsets and mountains. Later in high school his interested shifted to taking photographs of people. He was the photo editor for the high school yearbook and during this time, learned to process black and white film.
He attended College at Washington State University where he explored photography as he worked toward his teaching degree. His interest in fashion photography continued during his college years and he would frequently photograph fraternity parties and other events. After he graduated from college in 1989 he moved to the Skagit Valley where he started his teaching career as a plastics teacher and opened his photography business. The next year he started teaching all photography classes and photographed a few weddings during the summer. Throughout the mid nineties his wedding photography business grew into stable viable business while he continued to teach photography classes at Burlington Edison High School. In the late nineties he built a new house with an incorporated photography studio built into his basement. This allowed him to create other product lines and allow for his business to grow.
Mark continued to teach high school and run his photography business until he could no longer keep up with his photography business and his teaching career together. He resigned from teaching in June of 2005 and now runs his photography business full time.
Mark is extremely passionate about photography and puts his heart and soul into every image he creates. He loves the texture, tones and purity of black and white photographs. His style is completes unique, always looking for something new and contemporary! He enjoys the human form and looks for emotion in all his work.
About Janine Cook
Janine was born and raised in Dalby Australia. She attended private Catholic schools and continued her education in Nursing, obtaining her RN degree from the Gold Coast Hospital in Queensland. She met Mark on vacation in Hawaii and moved to the United States in 1991 where she began working as an RN at Skagit Valley Hospital in the critical care unit. She started in the photography business by assisting Mark on the weekends with weddings. After the business started to grow she started managing the production side of the business and the office. Once the studio went digital in 2002 she studied digital retouching, and now is responsible for enhancing all of our portraits. Her artistic skills add to the creation of our images and enhance their final appearance. Janine’s photography skills have also developed over the past 15 years and she has advanced from assisting during weddings to being an accomplished documentary photographer. Her photography skills and digital artwork have a symbiotic relationship, facilitating her continued success in this field.
